A weekly review checklist for a clearer week

By OS for You · September 11, 2026

A weekly review is a scheduled check of your commitments. The goal is to bring your system up to date so you can make deliberate choices about the week ahead. You are reviewing the work, not trying to finish all of it.

1. Collect the loose ends

Open your notes, calendar, and the places you normally leave reminders. Capture each unresolved commitment in one inbox. Include the small things you keep rehearsing in your head. For example, ‘Ask Alex whether the proposal needs a revised budget.’

2. Give each item a decision

For each inbox item, decide whether it needs an action. If it does, write the next physical step. If it takes several steps, create a project with a clear outcome. Put useful information in reference, park a real possibility in Someday, and remove what no longer matters.

3. Check every active project

Read the desired outcome and check whether there is a next action you can actually take. ‘Website launch’ is a project; ‘Send the homepage draft to Alex’ is an action. A project with no next action deserves a decision: move it forward, wait for something specific, or pause it.

4. Review what you are waiting for

Check the person, expected result, and follow-up date for each open handoff. If the reply arrived, close the loop or choose your next action. If it did not, decide when you will follow up. Do not keep the same promise in several competing lists.

5. Look backward, then forward

Scan the past week’s calendar for unfinished commitments. Look at the coming week for preparation you need to do now. Check recurring meetings and checklists. Keep actual appointments separate from tasks you merely hope to complete on a certain day.

6. Choose a realistic starting point

Pick the work that deserves attention next, given your time and energy. Make the first action small enough to begin. End the review once the system reflects reality; a perfectly empty inbox is less useful than a trustworthy list.
